Itinerary for Coast to Coast Expedition Tour


PACKAGE DESCRIPTION FOR COSTA RICA TOUR: For 10 wonderful days escape the monotony and tension of daily life and get away to beautiful Costa Rica with a Costa Rica vacation. Costa Rica is proud of its ecological conservation and vast richness of its natural wealth. Costa Rica covers only .03% of our earth’s surface, but it is blessed with over 5% of all life forms that roam the earth. Our Greenway Nature Tour, “Coast to Coast” explores Costa Rica’s lush green forest, canals, beautiful beaches, volcanoes, fauna and flora in very popular sights of Costa Rica. Tour San Jose, Tortuguero National Park, Quepos Beach, Arenal Volcano - a Costa Rica volcano, and Manuel Antonio National Park. There are so many things to do in Costa Rica.

Day 1WELCOME TO COSTA RICA: Our Greenway Nature tour representatives will meet you upon your arrival at the International Airport Juan Santamaria, Costa Rica. Our Costa Rica tour guide and representatives will provide you with a package of vouchers to be used on your Costa Rica vacation. At this time your Costa Rica tour itinerary will be given to you and you may ask questions about your Costa Rica vacation. You will be transported to your Costa Rica hotel and enjoy some leisure time.

Day 2. TORTUGUERO NATIONAL PARK: The “Coast to Coast” in Costa Rica tour will begin between 6am to 7am and will travel to Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica from San Jose. A Costa Rica bilingual naturalist guide driving an air conditioned bus, will drive you through Braulio Carrillo National Park. You will have the opportunity to catch sights of the beautiful Costa Rica scenery and vegetation. The bus will stop for breakfast and then continue to Caño Blanco driving through banana plantations.

A covered boat will be waiting for you when you arrive at Caño Blanco, Costa Rica. A two hour boat ride along the Tortuguero Canal is the highlight of the “Coast to Coast Expedition” Costa Rica tour because the Tortuguero Canal is somewhat similar to the Pantanal Park or Amazon River or in Brazil. Travelling this Costa Rica canal you be able to appreciate the abounding ecosystems and plentiful wildlife of the Caribbean Region of Costa Rica.

The lodge’s staff will greet you with a thirst-quenching cocktail when you arrive to Pachira Lodge. You will then be assigned your room and the afternoon activities will be explained by your guide. After lunch, the first activity will be to the Turtle Museum of the C.C.C. (Caribbean Conservation Corporation) and then on to the vibrant town of Tortuguero, a typical Caribbean village. You will return to the lodge around 5:30 p.m. No activities are scheduled until dinner. There will be time to enjoy the bar service, the pool, and prepare for dinner. Dinner will be served from 7:30 to 9:00pm.

Day 3. TORTUGUERO: A 6:15 am optional tour to Costa Rica’s Tortuguero National Forest is available so guest can admire the early morning arousing of wildlife. Return for breakfast with service between 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Get ready to enjoy another boat ride and experience Costa Rica’s rich flora and abundant fauna on the Costa Rica canals of Tortuguero National Park. After lunch there will be time for a siesta, a walk on the beach, or swim in the pool. An optional Tortuguero canal tour, or explore the private trails of the lodge or enjoy the open butterfly garden is available. Dinner will be served at the lodge and relax with a free night. Note: Entrance fee to the Tortuguero National Park is not included. The fee is $10 and has to be paid directly to the park's administration.

Day 4. SARAPIQUI: After breakfast it will be time to depart to the Rain Forest Lodge, Costa Rica. After lunch a private transport will take you to the Sarapiqui River. After checking in at the Rain Forest Lodge, located just in front of the Sarapiqui River, there will be an afternoon of leisure. This hotel is one of the pioneer’s rain forest lodges in Costa Rica. You will find all the comforts you expect. The hotel’s décor is an Indian Village with a Palapa concept. Dinner is included at the lodge.

DAY 5. COMBO ADVENTURE TOUR: The Adventure Combo Tour is the next experience on the “Coast to Coast Expedition” Costa Rica tour agenda. After the treat of a full Costa Rican breakfast, you will enjoy the thrill of the two most exciting adventure tours in Costa Rica, the Whitewater Rafting and the Canopy Tour. No experience required with the adventure of White Water Rafting in Costa Rica. The trip starts at the Hacienda’s landing and runs 13 Km. to Chilamate. It has an average gradient of 1.2%. You can experience White Water Rafting in Costa Rica all year long. The Canopy Tour has a total of 12 cables and 17 platforms with some ranging from 60 and 90 feet high. You will start from the edge at the ground platform and then soar through the air crossing the canyon two or three times. Lunch will be served at the Hacienda Pozo Azul. After a fun filled adventurous day we will return to the lodge and dinner will be served.

Day 6. CHOCOLATE TOUR & ARENAL VOLCANO: Cacao was one the most important products of the Aztec and Maya civilization in Central America. Within the three-hour tour, you will learn amazing facts about one of the most favorite foods of all - chocolate. Originating in Mesoamerica, the cacao plant has an extraordinarily rich history. A guided hike will take you across the Tirimbina suspension bridge to a cacao plantation in Costa Rica. During the hike, our guide will explain the Costa Rica cultural and natural history of the cacao tree and also point out the forest species of cacao and how the cacao plant was originally developed in this region. At the cacao plantation in Costa Rica you will learn about the harvesting, fermentation, drying and milling of the cacao plant. A group of rural women from Pueblo Nuevo de Guacimo dedicated to the production of organic chocolate provides different types of chocolate for our guests to taste. Lunch is on your own at the hotel. At 2:00 PM be ready for a land transfer to the active Arenal Volcano, Costa Rica located in La Fortuna town. Hotel check in and free time at leisure. In the evening feel free to visit the Baldi Hot Spring Waters or just take time to enjoy your new surroundings. Dinner is included. Note: Transportation from the hotel to the hot springs is not included. A taxi cab is available and is only a 5 minute drive.

Day 7. MANUEL ANTONIO BEACH: After breakfast at the hotel we will departure to Manuel Antonio Beach and National Park. Enjoy the hotel’s facilities after checking in at the hotel and lunch will be on your own. In the evening you will have free time to explore the nightlife of Manuel Antonio. You will find superb restaurants to treat yourself to a Costa Rican dinner.

Day 8. A FREESTYLE DAY IN MANUEL ANTONIO: Breakfast will be served. Feel free to customize your vacation with an optional tour. Please let us know if you want to add any of these optional activities so we can make a reservation for you in advance. Otherwise free time at leisure. Day 9SAN JOSE: Explore the Costa Rica beach and environment on your own in the morning. After lunch there will be a land transfer to San Jose. Be prepared for an overnight stay at the Hotel in San Jose.

Day 10 TRANSFER OUT AND GOODBYE: You will be transferred to the international airport in time to meet your scheduled flight and we all will say good bye.

SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE: The shuttle bus is a service where a maximum of 6-7 passengers travel in the same vehicle and to the same destination. By this way, we reduce the price of the transfer service and can arrange more economical packages. The service is very good, door to door, with recent model vehicles, full insured and A/C.

DEPARTURE DATES: All our options are available all year around and we just need your travel dates in order to check the hotel's availability and arrange it.

HOW BIG THE GROUPS ARE: Our vacations are operated in an independent basis and you will not travel as part of a group unless you are part of a group. However, during the transfers and Daily Tours you will travel with other tourist we might have for that particular activity or service.

HOW TO RESERVE THIS PACKAGE: Please send an email to cheryl@thingstodocostarica.com with as much as information you can about your desired vacation, number of participants, arrival dates, name of the package you are interested on and any other special requirements. Once you receive our confirmation form, a 20% deposit is due. Full payment due 60 days prior to departure.

CAN I CUSTOMIZE A PACKAGE: Yes, you can use our packages as a base and make any change on it. We are very flexible. If these packages do not fit on your desired vacation, just send an email to us and we can prepare a new option for you.

AIRFARE IS NOT INCLUDED: All our options includes the Land Portion only. Airfare must be on your own and indicate your arrival and departure dates to us in order to arrange the hotel's bookings.

HOTEL CATEGORIES: All the hotels used by Greenway Tours had been selected considering the best standards of quality and service. Our Hotels are between 3 and 5 stars. All inspected by our company's owners and managers in order to guarantee an excellent service. At least 50% of our lodging contractors had been certified as Green Companies by the Costa Rican Tourist Board (Certification in Sustainable Tourism CST).
